1. What did Abdul, and Chuskit’s parents and grandparents say when Chuskit said she felt bad, she did not study like her brother and cousins did?

They said different things; Aba-ley (father) consoled her saying that she could stitch better than any one in the family. Abdul was interested doing something good for Chuskit and he ask her if she would like to come to school. Finally, Meme-ley (grandfather) not to help Chuskit, expressed his frustration saying “learn as much as you can at home.”

2. How did these people help to make the bridge? Complete the table.

3. Describe in detail how Chuskit’s dream of going school came true. [Hint: Use the contents of the table in question-2]

Initially Chuskit’s family were helpless. It was Abdul, a student of class VI who took initiative and then everything changed. Whole school with all the students, teachers and Principal came together to plane the ground, build a bridge. Chuskit’s family were happy to provide them with tea and biscutes. After all now Chuskit would be able to go to school.

C. THINK AND ANSWER.

1. Why did Abdul wish to help Chuskit?

Abdul and Chuskit were from the same village. When in the previous week Abdul had studied about the fundamental rights of citizens in the civics class, he realized it also included Chuskit to have the right to education. Hence he helped her.

2. Why did Chuskit’s grandfather have tears in his eyes when he saw the bridge being made?

Chuskit’s grandfather was not able to help her little granddaughter to go to school. But as he saw all the students, teachers and the principal working hard so that Chuskit could go to school; he became emotional and tear rolled down his cheek. He was not expecting this to happen.
