C.6 Answer the following questions

a. The speaker’s way of describing each place is fascinating. Do you agree? Why/Why not?

Yes, I agree that the speaker’s way of describing each place is fascinating because of the choice of words, and also the way he described the things with his vivid imagination.

b. What alternative title would you suggest for the poem? Give reasons for your choice.

An alternative title to the poem would be ‘Dream to Travel’ because the poet knows where he wishes to go and has many aspirations about what he is going to visit. Through the lines of this poem, he is able to convey the meaning and the idea behind his travel plan more successfully.

c. The poem has not been written is stanzas. What do you think is the poet’s reason for doing so?

The poem has not been written in stanzas. Most probably the poet did not want to break or disturb the flow of places, description and images. Hence, the poet has been able to present a smooth transition from place to place.

C.7 Answer the following questions

a.  The speaker is enchanted by the description of places he has read about in various books or heard from stories. He has tried to convey this through the poem. Do you agree? Why/Why not?

Yes, I agree that the speaker is enchanted by the description of places he has read about in various books or heard from stories.

The poet uses lot of imaginaries to his descriptions. For example, ‘where golden apples grow’ is not a real existence but found in Greek mythology. Similarly, the lines, ‘Lonely Crusoes building boats’ gives reference to the character from the novel, Robinson Crusoe.

b. Imagine the speaker of the poem has gone to visit Egypt. He writes a diary entry expressing his love for the place and how he is captivated by its mesmerising beauty. Write a diary entry.
