Read the chapter from your book and answer the following questions.

1. What is the name of the blind girl?

The name of the blind girl is Helen Keller.

2. What did everyone suggest to Helen’s mother?

They suggested to just send her away somewhere.

3. What kind of behaviour did the child have?

She was wild and did not allow anyone to comb her hair. Her cloths were dirty and.  She was often angry and sometimes laid on the floor and kicked her feet.

Her teacher’s name is Miss. Anne Sullivan.

She learnt sit, stand and walk in the beginning.

She used all other senses such as taste, smell and feel to learn homework.

The most important thing that Helen finally understood are the ‘words’ which tell everything one wants to know. Words make the world blossom for her.

3. Why would Helen’s world now ‘blossom’?

Her world would now ‘blossom’ because words can explain everything to her. Now she would be able to understand anything she wanted to know.

E. DISCUSS IN CLASS.

‘A teacher takes a hand, opens a mind and touches a heart.’ Explain this in the context of Helen Keller’s life.

This line explains the quality of a good teacher. In this story we find the care and ability of Miss Sullivan to teach a deaf and dumb girl like Helen Keller. Taking her hand, Miss Sullivan uses it to explain the words that opened the understanding of Helen Keller. Finally, Helen understood everything through words. She became a happier than ever.
