Forest for its eternal sanctity is treated as deity and worshipped in almost every community. Forest being always a giver and protector, the indigenous people with awe and admiration begins to recognize its divinity and pass on to their generation about the same divinity they have acknowledged, understood and appreciated by these people. Thus, belief is formed and shared.

 c. What is mainstream media?

Mainstream media are forms of the media – especially traditional forms such as newspapers, television, and radio rather that the Internet – that influence large numbers of people and are likely to represent generally accepted beliefs and opinions.

a. Elaborate the belief associated with ‘Lawkyntang’.

‘Lawkyntang’ is a sacred forest also known as ‘Mawphlang Sacred Grove’. It spans over 192 acres and is protected and cared by the community of the Mawphlang village. It is believed that a deity lives in the forest and protects her home, therefore making everything inside blessed, right from the animals, to the twigs, to the water. Nothing should be harmed or taken out of the forest.

b. Do you think storytelling as a tool in an effective way to promote environment awareness?

Yes, storytelling as a tool in an effective way can promote environment awareness.  Everyone takes interests in stories. It engages the audience in a creative way and connects emotionally with the plot of the story. Storytelling fosters individuals to various cause and effects of the situation in the story and raises their consciousness to protect and preserve our environment for future generations.

c. Analyse the impact of having awards for environment protection?

Awards is a sign of acknowledgement, appreciation and recognition towards a person for his or her unique achievement and contribution for a task. Such recognition fosters a sense of responsibility and motivates others to take proactive steps in protecting nature. Awards can also enhance public awareness, inspiring broader support for environmental causes and encouraging innovative solutions.

d. Environmental protection needs to be woven into the way of life and living practices of people, to be sustainable. Justify with reference to the lesson.

Incorporating environmental protection into the way of life is very important for sustainable development and commitment to preserving our planet. When individuals come together with the same thoughts and action, it becomes a collective effort towards sustainable living. This is a continuous and holistic approach.
